Week 34: The campaign is now in the Spending Money phase
Dear Colorado Voter,
With 4 weeks left, I am now spending the money that you all have so generously donated. A billboard on I-25. New campaign literature so I can succinctly introduce myself. Online advertising. (Check out your favorite Colorado town at https://www.ourconnectedcommunities.com/CO .) More in-state travel. Possibly a movie screening of the 2012 Chilean film “No” – maybe on my birthday. The best birthday present would be 1.5 million Coloradans voting for me!
Please share your ideas for strategically spending the campaign chest and for getting out word of my candidacy. Please don’t suggest tv time unless you’ve also got a plan for quickly raising that kind of money!
Please continue telling Colorado voters about me. Get a yard sign if you don’t have one. Get window signs for your car so the signs can publicize my candidacy while you are parked. Get a (postcard-size) sign for your bicycle.
The Secretary of State race is not getting much media attention, but voters have their ballots now so everyone can see that my name is the last of the five listed. The major-party candidates are always listed first, followed by minor-party candidates, and then unaffiliated candidates.
The gubernatorial and competitive congressional races are getting the most attention. In those races, partisanship matters! The governor can influence and veto legislation. Control of Congress may flip as a result of these midterm elections.
No candidate in the Secretary of State contest has a statewide profile. Without looking at your ballot, can you name the D and R candidates for Secretary of State?
More than half of Colorado’s voters are unaffiliated, and many voters who do identify with a political party are tired of the demand for blind party loyalty. You do NOT have to vote a straight-party ballot – especially for a nonpartisan-type office like Secretary of State.
Thanks to the Denver Post for interviewing me for a possible endorsement and to Fox31’s Point of View for giving me a few minutes!
And thanks most of all to you, my incredible supporters and volunteers! Check out the photo of the group that marched at Louisville’s Labor Day parade.
With enthusiasm and purpose,
Celeste
