Tues, Oct 13 – letter to the Daily Camera editor https://www.dailycamera.com/2026/10/13/dirty-tactics-advance-coloradoamendment-82-election/ Excerpt: The Camera truly buried the lede in its article on the Secretary of State race (Oct. 4). Under the headline“Candidates looking to depoliticize the office,”the article focused on the two candidates from the two major parties. There were only a few words about Celeste Landry. Celeste has made removing partisanship from running Colorado’s elections her central campaign theme, very much “depoliticizing the office.”

A common theme of the asterisked items is my commitment to protect Coloradans’ right to vote. Unfortunately, this right can no longer be taken for granted after the CO state legislature passed two party-protection bills that disenfranchise registered voters who belong to the “wrong” party in oddyear special vacancy elections. November 2025 voters in El Paso County Commissioner District 5 only saw the county commissioner contest on their ballot if they were Republican or unaffiliated!

In November 2027 vacancies in the state legislature are scheduled to be filled in party-protection elections – but not if I’m elected Secretary of State! After swearing an oath to the U.S. and CO Constitutions, I will not conduct these unconstitutional elections.

I wish that a news outlet would ask the other SoS candidates what they think about these party-protection bills. I want them on the record! My Democratic opponent didn’t have time to talk to me about the partyprotection elections before or after the Saturday debate. My Republican opponent indicated to me that he would probably refuse to conduct these unconstitutional elections.

Bob Chew (U.S. Senate), Greg Lopez (Governor), and I are running active, credible campaigns and offering voters an option besides the two major parties. When you mark your ballot, please give the three of us statewide candidates as much consideration as you give the major-party candidates.

With enthusiasm and purpose,

Celeste
