Week 9: Officially a Candidate

Dear Colorado Voter,

On Saturday the Forward Party's state assembly unanimously voted me onto the November 3rd general election ballot. I also received endorsements over the weekend from the Unity Party and the Approval Voting Party.

The Forward Party is a natural fit for my campaign to be Colorado's next Secretary of State. Its platform calls for respecting the rule of law, supporting election reforms that strengthen democracy, collaborating with people across the political divide, basing decisions on data, acting ethically, and being accountable to one's constituents. The Republican state assembly also chose their nominee for November – James Wiley. He strongly supports freeing Tina Peters. His website touts his voting "creed: One Day, In Person, Voter ID, Paper Ballots, Hand Count." I believe voters will reject the "One Day, In Person" parts, and the County Clerks Association would likely oppose the "Hand Count" part. He originally filed to run as a Libertarian and was the Executive Director of the CO Libertarian Party but had a falling out with the Libertarians and became a Republican in late 2025.

The Libertarians have their state assembly on April 18th. No Secretary of State candidate is yet listed on their website, but one could emerge. Interestingly, the Libertarian assembly offers delegates a NOTA (None of the Above) option for each office.

Two Democrats will compete in the June 30th primary to be the Democratic Party nominee. They have been raising a lot of money and collecting endorsements. They are both elected officials from Jefferson County. Neither is working on one of my priority issues: "Better Representation" – specifically, by letting voters use better voting methods to reduce vote-splitting and to achieve proportional representation. One candidate has even worked against my other two priority issues by helping enable the erosion of our right to vote and introducing risks to Colorado's election integrity.
